I remember there being such an assembler joystick-routine in the book "Programming the VIC" to be found here:

Re: Conversion of VIC-SSS-MMX to CBM prg Studio

There are some "illegal"-opcodes describet in "no more secrets" and i found some interesting optimazion for the sprite stack. The SSSXYPrintS can be done by the LAX opcode instead of LDA/LDX and saves 9 cycles. The check with the newest SpriteStack version runs normal. Unless ab...

Re: New Game: VICSTRIP

Thanks, Mike, for posting this. I arrived back home at 10 p.m. yesterday and am just now "back to life". The idea for this game actually dates back around 12 years . The graphics-mode used for this was already finished in 2019, aiming for a 2020-release. Then the pandemic hit. I was also w...

Re: Commodore trademarks in Canada

In fact the Commodore-ROMs current owner appears to be Cloanto. At least they seem to have the best claim to those as the copyright-situation is kind of murky since Commodore's demise. Whether the claim is valid or not, what it comes down to is: Do you want to risk to be sued by Cloanto or not? See ...

Re: Jalapeno 2nd place

I really like FCBPAINT , as it offers a very good trade-off between resolution and colour-granularity and is accessible to the end-user without having to worry about programming a display-routine with inline-rastersplits. I did this picture 6 years ago with it: https://www.tokra.de/vic/vicmckracken/...

Re: Why is the Machine Language Monitor cartridge so expensive?

Why are people paying that price for these things that are completely obsolete. Are you sure these are the prices these items have actually sold for? Or just some seller feeling lucky searching for someone who will pay this? To get a realistic sense of an item's worth I always use the EBay "Ad...

Apparantly some retro-website did an interview with Andrew Gwynne now, he mentions some more of the recent VIC-releases:

Re: What would be a good game for...

Victragic's Pitfall-port fits most of the above and is a recognizable 80's game, however it is not an original VIC-20-game from the era. If you want that I'd suggest Donkey Kong, Pole Position or Star Battle (= Galaxians).

Re: Can I Buy a VIC-20 Style Keyboard for Emulation?

Apparantly the keyboards of "THE C64" or "THE VIC-20" are just USB-keyboards internally. So theoretically you should be able to connect these as USB-keyboards to any PC and use them in an emulator. Essentially "THE C64" is running an emulator anyways (VICE 2.4 I think).

Re: 6560 FPGA Progress.

Tokra and Mike - it looks like some or all of the aux colour, background colour and border colour get set during the left margin of most lines before the display area starts. Are you twiddling anything else on a per-raster basis, such as the screen and colour bases, or are they set at the top of ea...
