I connected my fan's black wire to the 5V output and the red wire to the 12V output. 12-5=7volts. But you should only do this if your are sure the fan consumes little power because this way you are pouring current into the 5V feed... There's plenty of places you can pickup the 5V, I picked mine up o...

Yes, back then I powered the fan from the drive itself. If you really want to install a fan here is where you can find the power. Having the drive facing towards you and the plastic top cover removed, you will see on the back right side of the board two big nickel shaped transistors with either each...

Long ago I owned a VIC-1541 and I had a similar problem. There are few major differences between the 1540 and 1541 and one thing they both have in common is... linear regulators for 12 and 5 Volts feed. First and foremost a powerful fan is not good because it will draw dust into the drive. Normally ...

The largest OTP EPROM I have access to is 8Mbit in capacity, that's 1 Mbyte. A chip like that is only 7$ That's 64 16kbyte games or 128 8kbytes games. It would be quite difficult to fit ALL vic games on a single cart because they use different memory configurations. The most obvious example is the s...

The ram expander is based on vector's 3677-2 prototyping board. The bare board looks like this: http://rocky.digikey.com/WebLib/Vector/Web%20Photos/New%20Photos/3677-2.jpg It is not necessarily impossible to add a 6551 to the cartridge because the Western Design Center still makes the W65C51S. Its e...

Well, I need to pay my university courses and I take more than half an hour to properly unpack a fragile drive, connect it to my equipment, make a preliminary diagnostic, open it up, diagnose the head signal, realign the head, make sure the job is done well by diagnosing again, close the drive, repa...
