Re: New penultimate-plus-2-cartridge
Is is significantly better than the Penultimate+? It's quite a bit of cash for what might be a fairly minor upgrade.

Re: Looking for a source for VIC-20 RAM
If you are in the US, you could try these guys from Montana. I haven't used them so this is not a direct recommendation, but they aren't ebay or Ali Express.

Atari XEP80 driver
The Atari XEP80 is an 80 column video interface that Atari released for their 8 bit line of computers. What is unusual about it is that it interfaces via the standard 9 pin Atari/Commodore joystick port. Does anyone know if there was ever a driver created to get it to run on Commodore machines? The ...

Re: #FujiNet apps on a 5K VIC? Yes.
How different is it to the Atari version? I have one for my Atari, so do I need a separate one for Commodore machines, or can I wire up an adaptor cable to convert from SIO to IEC and use the Atari version but with different firmware at least to try it out? As the serial interface is different (Comm...

Re: VIC-20 with junk text at the bottom
There is a possibility that your RAM is faulty but piggybacking wasn't successful. Have you left the machine running for a while and checked if the RAM gets noticeably hot? Did you run other games as well, and if so did they glitch in the same place on the screen? Try graphics based games and also s...

Re: The Serial Speech Synthesizer SAM module
I have one of Jan's SAM modules, and it sounds terrible - just like it should do :D . It seems to work flawlessly with the Scott Adams adventures, which was what I bought it for. If anyone is looking for a modern speech synth that sounds like it was designed 40 years ago, I would definitely recommen...

That's a Fairchild chip.
If you are interested in identifying the manufacturer of an IC, the site I link to below is very useful. I thought your IC was a Fairchild one, and that site confirmed it.

Re: Jeff's VIC 20 Book
Missed one.
Page 109. FIND "A" looks for text strings only, but FIND A will find variables too.
So, for the program
10 A1$="ABC"
20 A2$="BCD"
FIND A will find lines 10 and 20, but FIND "A" will only find line 10. Page 109 only covers FIND A

Re: Jeff's VIC 20 Book
A couple of small points: Page 3: VIC-1 Chip should be 6560 (NTSC) / 6561 (PAL) rather than 6561. Should it be referred to as the VIC-1 or just the VIC? Page 3: Dimensions - the height isn't the same for all cases, so maybe write (typical) next to 75mm and 2.9" Page 3: Cartridge dimensions - ar...

For the CIRCLE command, the <wi> and <hi> appear to be clarifications of what rx and ry mean. I think replacing rx <wi> with something like <x radius> and ry <hi> with <y radius> would make it clearer. Could a note be added to say that <as> and <af> are in Gradians? I think this is the only time I c...

I have one driving a C64C and a higher power one driving a C128, and I have no issues with either of them. Are there better ones? I guess there may be, but I'm perfectly happy with theirs and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to you, especially as it would only be driving a Vic 20, which draws a l...

Re: Help wanted getting a 40 column utility running
Ian, where can we find the image? It would be cool to create a ROM+RAM cartridge with it in. I guess that must have been how it was sold back in the day Hi Jon, I am happy to fire it up and try something if you have a test in mind. If you have ability to create the rom the image, it is available. Be...
