Agreed. There are a lot of "hand crafted" sticks out there with arcade parts in generic project cases but I don't like the ergonomics. I like beamrider's design.orion70 wrote:Congratulations! Should anyone sell this stuff, I'd rather buy it than any other joystick.

Re: Display issue on PAL VIC-20
I felt the same way for a long time. It was only when the last of my CRTs died and I switched to digital displays that S-Video became a necessity.siccoyote wrote:mrr19121970 wrote:(Though honestly I'm not a fan of s-video, I never seem to have much luck with it and it seems more essential in ntsc regions.)

Re: Display issue on PAL VIC-20
What kind of display are you using? I've seen this same thing on many modern digital displays that upscale the analog video to higher resolutions. The built-in TV upscalers do a lot of dithering in the conversion. In my experience this dithering isn't in the source video but artifacts from the cheap...

Re: VIC-20 Logo Trademark?
According the US Patent and Trademark Office the "VIC-20" wordmark is "dead". [edit] The link to search results expires, so I guess it isn't linkable. This is the link to the search page: http://tess2.uspto.gov/ Click on "Basic Word Mark Search " then enter "vic-20...

Re: Hardware assisted Games
For me it boils down to this: I use an obsolete home computer released 37 years ago for enjoyment, appreciation of its uniqueness and "personality." I want my personal VIC experience to be a VIC experience, not a C64 or Apple II or Atari 800 or a modern computing experience. For my persona...

Cassiopei V2
My new Cassiopei arrived Thursday. For years I quit using tapes with my VIC because it was too much hassle. I used VICE for anything tape. The Cassiopei loads TAP files in only a few seconds so my impatient 21st century self can enjoy TAP on real hardware again. Cooler still, it has a WiFi interface...

Re: Scorpion (Tronix)
I love Radar Rat Race and Rally X as well. There are some differences between those and Scorpion, mainly that Scorpion is more complex. Instead of simple "capture the flag," the frog eggs and frogs have to be brought back to the point of origin. Also, after the first level the game speeds ...

Scorpion (Tronix)
I have recently discovered Tronix's Scorpion. This is an excellent maze shooter and could have easily been a hit in the arcades back in the day. But boy it is difficult. It has that classic arcade difficulty, relatively easy at first then it ramps up quickly. Fun, but still difficult. So far my top ...

Re: Brand new joysticks from China
A few years back I bought some modern repros from China. They were priced about the same. The sticks were fine, just as good as the original Atari sticks. But that's a mixed blessing. The Atari stick is iconic, but my favorites are some of the third party options from back in the day. Newport Contro...

Re: Pharaoh's Curse
Another necrobump because I've just discovered Pharaoh's Curse. What a great game! There were several fun games like this back then (although not necessarily for the VIC). I spent many summer days playing similar adventure multiscreen platform games. We used to copy the games onto our own disks and ...

Mobile Attack
I've been enjoying this game over the last few days. It reminds me of an arcade game but it has been so long that I can't remember the arcade title. I'm not very good at Mobile Attack, though... so far my best score is 20630. Levels can be completed by "eating" the pellet or shooting all o...

Re: S-Video conversion possible as plug-and-play solution?
I bought this upgrade last year but life got in the way and I didn't get a chance to install it until today. What an amazing difference this makes for displaying on a modern HD display! I highly recommend it. Buy it if it's still available, and if not build the mod yourself. The parts are all easily...
