As I wrote in another thread, I tested three VIC-20s with a long cable (around 2 m) and none functioned (though it worked with the C64), and when I shortened the cable to 1 m, it suddenly worked.

Dishwashers are good for modern computer keyboards; just stick the whole thing in. That's not true; it depends on the construction of your keyboards. Modern Apple keyboards use circuits printed on plastic films, and any liquid in the keyboard will mean that those sheets will stick together and ulti...

Hey - I'm back in Canada again. Surprisingly, I found it very difficult to find Internet "cafes" in Japan. Many eating establishments had Wifi, but no computers. Fortunately, one of the ryokan (Japanese Inn) we stayed in had a computer in the lobby so I could at least do a quick email che...

Poor design, isn't it?

So I, who have my own (27c256) EPROM burner, can skip the ROM option and add my own monitor or DOS wedge? I so, I'm interested.

I don't get this ROM option feature. Does the board have sockets for ROMs, or is it a surface-mounted ROM or flash chip?

After buying another VIC-20, and getting the same results, and putting both computers away again, I think I finally found the problem last weekend. I had thought that I had had extremely bad luck, getting two bad VIC-20s, with a fault that couldn't be easily diagnosed. I suspected that the LM counte...

An impostor, starting out as a friend but more and more copying the victim? Think Single White Female . There were four Archimedes in the big auction: 3000, 3010, 3020, 4000 selling between 36 and 56 Euro, all unboxed. Another kind of computer I had never heard about until a few years ago. I...

Contributing to Mobygames?

Do you know of Mobygames? It is a database of games for a lot of platforms. They have a VIC-20 section, but its selection of games is sparse. It would be great if the community could "represent", so to say.
