Re: VIC Game Club No. 1 – Qix Inspired Games

Gave Squeeze another go: 3175. I did not play very well - it's all about strategy.

Re: VIC Game Club No. 1 – Qix Inspired Games

I have tried all three games + arcade Qix now. All the VIC games are very different from Qix, but I actually prefer them in many regards. Shark Attack plays much like a Snake-game. You can collide with your own tail but at the expense of it its fencing function. Slap Dab has much in common with maze...

Re: VIC Game Club No. 1 – Qix Inspired Games

I will give all of them a serious try before I vote. It's always fun to compare games!

Re: Monthly VIC Game Club ?

Squeeze by Synapse is a straight Qix clone for Vic (even though Qix him(?)self is missing). I can't remember if I have played it or not but it looks great.

Re: Monthly VIC Game Club ?

It's safe to say that Qix was the inspiration for Shark Attack :)

Re: Monthly VIC Game Club ?

The Shark Attack tune? Perhaps it is supposed to be a variant on the sailor song Blow The Man Down, just as the tune in C64 Manic Miner is supposed to be a variant on Hall Of The Mountain King...

Re: Monthly VIC Game Club ?

I will gladly play Shark Attack. My only concern is that it is too unique to be considered a clone of Qix. Many (most?) VIC-games borrow ideas from arcade games, so there may not be much left for the non-arcade category :? But as I said, I will be very happy to play Shark Attack. For a straight arca...

Re: $B

Clever and cryptic. It took me a while to figure out the the original game. Just imagine if I had gone straight to your VIC port instead

Re: Monthly VIC Game Club ?

I try to participate in Lemon's game competition when I have the time. It works as a really great motivator to give non-favourite-games a serious try, and often you will have to change your opinion about the game. Good games will be even more enjoyable. So, I definitely will try to fit in some VIC-g...

Re: New release : Pentagorat (32k)

Hehe, I was even closer to finish it yesterday than I thought - I only forgot to apply the Finnish text clue. Will give 7:43.37 a go 8) Who knows, I do better when I play it fast and by instinct. My biggest problem - by far - was to avoid damage by the fast, homing-in head in the room next to the ch...

Re: New release : Pentagorat (32k)

Last night I resorted to using save states... Not proud of it but I made another breakthrough and considering the difficulites I had, it would probably have taken me forever without them. Not finished it yet, but I must be very close (I have exited through the exit door). After that I will play it t...

Re: New release : Pentagorat (32k)

Now I have had the time to play it for a few hours. I love it! Game of the year for me (not limited to VIC). But I am a bit stuck at the moment. I have found four items and one crucial (so I guess) message. Every pixel on the life meter matters. I am able to (almost) never take any damage from the s...

Re: New release : Pentagorat (32k)

The lifemeter drains fast, but otherwise I am pleasantly surprised by the moderate difficulty. Granted, I have not had the time to play much yet, so who knows what lies in store. Anyway, the responsive controls will assure that any challenges ahead will be a joy to take on :D

Re: New release : Pentagorat (32k)

Thank you for this Christmas gift Misfit! Even though I didn't get my VIC for Christmas, playing VIC-20 games is a very "Christmassy thing" to me :D Isometric graphics of this artistic quality and speed for VIC-20 is a dream come true. My brother have bought the tape for our shared collect...
