As stupid as it may sound, why not?
Look at the MSX versions. They're perfectly playable, even though they don't have hardware scroll, and only Vic Viper and its weapons are made using sprites. All enemies are characters and move at character intervals.

The Atari 2600 pictured seems to live in a studio, judging by the rack equipment around it and the effects pedal on top of it, and the cartridge inserted looks quite suspect. I think it's some Kevin Horton music project.

I did it the opposite way; adding a DIN connector in parallel with the two-prong connector. The VIC hasn't been exhibiting any problems so far.

Re: Rebuilt 2 "long electronics board" VIC-1541s

It probably means that they were intended for the C64. After all, they're 1541 drives, and not 1540 drives, and the C64 already existed on a planning or prototype stage. =) These are VIC-1541 and not beige 1541... Since the C64 was first sold as the VIC-64 in Sweden, I would never have paid any att...

Yes, i wish to put my prg2crt conversions of all my favorite games to preserve them for the future, i'm not so confident that floppies works in 2030  I'm so glad that I bought a load of Jens Schönfeld's newly manufactured floppies; at least those are at least 15 years newer than other floppie...

Re: Rebuilt 2 "long electronics board" VIC-1541s

Both of these drives have their 6502 and 6522 chips dated around early 1982. Which means they were made before the C64 existed. They were truly intended for VICs. Both of them have an electronics board that is much longer than normal. It probably means that they were intended for the C64. After all...

Re: PAL and NTSC:
I don't know how much common cartridge games tend to fiddle with the video registers, but if they don't, wouldn't it be possible to simply adjust the registers in the menu to set the screen up correctly?

I don't see what the problem is. It's not your games (basically, it's piracy), and mirroring makes sure that they do what they were intended to do; get played by people. I'm sure everyone's downloaded games without paying attention to who dumped them.

I differentiate between collectors who are hobbyists (such as yourself and I'd reckon everyone who has registered on Denial) and collectors who have no intrinsic interest in the machine. One rule of thumb I go by for identifying "collectors" or "hoarders", and the general hobbyi...

Yes, but things using standard black wall-warts, and not custom Commodore supplies, will have voltage stabilisers inside, because it would be suicidal for the electronics to rely on a cheap wall-wart to supply exactly the required current and voltage. WRONG! I have a very nice internet router here ...

... As for the voltage, .5 volts over will, in all likeliness, not create any significant problems. I'll bet that most cheap universal power supplies fluctuate at least that much either way during normal use. WRONG AGAIN! (at least for devices using regulated power) Yes, but things using standard b...
