Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I've revised the classes by making minor modifications and I removed the "Proteus" class (which was a "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" type of class) to replace it with the "War-Mage" (basically a Fighter/Wizard/Cleric combo class - and it is the one that requires t...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I've also revised the race and class tables, so I'll just post images of the most current iteration of their respective spreadsheets: realms5.jpg realms6.jpg You can see them better if you click on them. They're pretty self-explantory to any fans of RPG games. For example, if you create a Male Dwarf...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I thank you all for the good words. I've been procrastinating more on the various player races of the game. My biggest concern is that I lifted race names from Tolkien (and other fantasy universes), and I wanted to revise these. Not that I expect a bunch of copyright lawyers to come down and read th...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Thanks for the update! I find your persistence and work discipline impressive (and inspiring!) Even though I am not a RPG-guy first and foremost, I find it super exciting to see projects such as this for the Vic 20, Nox Archaist for the Apple II, and Unknown Realm for the C64! Yours will probably b...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Just another update. Believe me, I am still working on this game! I started working on Realms V in February of this year. I'd say that 60% of the game is done based on the amount of disk space that the current build occupies. Of course, there will be extensive debugging and tweaking of the game cont...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Thanks all. I had realized that I hadn't posted any updates after a while. But I do conitnue to work on it. The thing is, I find writing text quite harder to do than generating the graphics for the game. I mean, I'm no Richard Garriott, but hopefully the textual content that I'm producing will creat...

Re: New physical cartridge release: Cheese And Onion

What an impressive achievement. I think that there have been really great projects made for the VIC-20 in the past 3 years.

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I hope you are still able to find the time to finish it. Then I will at least find the time to play it :) The time to finish it I probably cannot even hope for. I still continue to work on the game every day -- even if it means that I take 15 minutes to create some content or spend a couple of hour...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I created a pirate ship graphic for those combat encounters that occur at sea.

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Thank you for the kind comments. I recently started a new job, and hopefully I can still put in the time to complete the game--and I think I'm closer to finishing it than I think I actually am (in terms of actual content, it might be about 1/3 finished, but the game's engine is pretty close to being...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I continue programming the city module, and I'm almost done this. After all the features for it have been programmed, I should be able to design the remaining cities (18 after the current one is finished) in fairly quick order as all I will need to do is create the data files that contain all the in...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

To further demonstrate the example, the player searches at the spot that he was directed to by the townspeople, and finds a piece of the tablet.

Of course pieces of the tablet will be obtained by other means throughout the game (like defeating bosses, solving dungeon puzzles, etc).

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I decided to change the artifact from an amulet to a tablet -- makes more sense since the assembled image of 121 pieces (11*11 characters of the graphic view screen) is square shaped. realms5.jpg Like I said before, 121 might seem like a lot, but many of them can be found by gleaning the clues from ...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Can't wait to meet Her Highness the Baroness Jakayla, and to satisfy her deepest desires - as a sidequest of course  I've been working on the portion of the game that keeps track of the progress that the player makes. Basically, the main quest involves assembling 121 pieces of a sacred tab...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

During your travels into the cities, you will meet the nobility and monarchs who govern them. They expect to be well paid when they give you the pleasure of their company! realms5.jpg realms6.jpg Each person you encounter during the game can be conversed with. While I wouldn't say the conversations ...
