Re: Brainstorming

-A dungeon crawl through Dracula castle, perhaps to save a kidnapped damsel. Vampire Hunter D style. Battling werewolves, vampires, ghouls, demons etc. Good variant, but not my cup of tea. Vampires always lowered my interest in a game (let alone movies and TV series). I have to disagree. I love Got...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I changed the main menu screen so that you can use the cursor keys to select the game options. So all of the function keys have been disabled save for F5 -- that is being kept so you can easily toggle music on/off during gameplay. realms5.jpg After several weeks removed from doing any actual coding,...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I was merely admiring your drive to make sure this runs as smoothly as possible with traditional floppy. I would like to write a large scale rpg designed for a cart with switchable rom more because it can be done and I feel the format should be represented. I am not as concerned with sales or popul...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I admire your need to make sure that this game plays a smoothly and simply as possible on traditional hardware. You could simply rely on the idea that most have sdiec or emulation but your work and attention to detail will ensure the best gameplay no matter how it is ran. A game of this magnitude f...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I've been thinking of a way to minimize disk swapping as much as possible. Since the Bestiary disk (side 3) will have all of the monsters in the game, I think I can also fit the map travel and dungeon modules there as well. So when you have an encounter, the game will store the contents of the game ...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Yay! Combat engine! So excited to see how battles are going to play out :D I better get on the actual programming side of things -- the longer I work on these graphics, the farther removed I am from the familiarity with my own program code. Albeit, I do provide code comments for almost everything, ...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

The shading came out very nice on that one. How many pics do you have left? Thank you. It's all about finding the right image that provides the best color brightness and contrast. I've done 120 monster images, so there are about 18 left to do and then I'll begin to work immediately on the combat en...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I've done 112 monster portraits so far. It's getting to be a lot of fun to be creating those images for the much more powerful ones.

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

It is perfectly possible to have the Behr-Bonz hardware present 256 windows of 8k each visible at the BLK5 area and leave 24k of RAM expansion (for the game engine) at BLK 1, 2 and 3. The added benefit is if you disable the game, the cartridge becomes a standard 24k RAM expansion. Let's say we have...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

For those who are curious about such things, this is the compile.bat file that I use to compile all of the files from source to binary that are used in the game: REM #### Male Player Portraits #### ca65.exe --cpu 6502 --listing rq5race0a6200.s ld65.exe -C vic20.cfg -o work\rq5.race0a.6200 rq5race0a6...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

If you decide you need an artist I can recommend someone who is great at this sort of thing but i am sure would love to do it as well. I spend about 60-90 minutes a day to produce about 4 monster images. I have .bat files that facilitates this process which opens 3 instances of xvic, GIMP and 2 fol...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

How difficult would it be to port the game to cartridge format? Do you mean altering the software so it complies with the requirements of the hardware or taking the adapted software and putting it on the cart? If the software is already adapted then it really takes a few minutes to make the cart. I...
