Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Your revised monster pics look beautiful. Very wonderful work. I ecspecialy like the the red dragon, orcus and black puddin. I can't wait to see them on hardware. Have you done any dungeon work yet? To the last post, i never played legeds of grimrock but demons of dex was one of my all time favorit...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I enjoy a nice complicated system. Most of my favorite rpgs i've had to play half way through befor i fully understand how to play the game. If the system is to simple, strait forward or generic the game tends to get boring fast. I often played for weeks just wandering around, exploring and whackin...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

It's becoming VERY complicated! (Just like in real life, I suppose :)). I guess in its final form the game will have a steep learning curve, and a thick manual. Not that I won't like it - it'll only add value to this "final RPG" - but I wonder if you could introduce a simplified version o...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

From the languages you have used, 'c' would be a very easy transition, just a matter of learning the restrictions. A quick read of K&R would suffice. CC65 is a pretty good compiler. I used it to write Tank Battalion and that uses a large screen, you just can't use the built in conio functions [...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

A bit late now but regarding your switch to assembler for this version, just wondering if you considered writing it in 'c' at all. Might have been a good compromise and fast enough for an RPG while reducing the dev effort... Although I've used C-like languages (C#, Java, PHP) at work, I'm not very ...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Lol! That is awesome. I once played a d&d game where we would get gigs at pubs as musician. We would roll charosma and performance to work the crowd and get paid. If we botched a performance roll it would end in a bar brawl. It was a fun way to earn gold in a game. Very good. What I liked about...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Thank you! In the past, I was Dungeon-Mastering a D&D session and a newbie asked me if it was possible to use his CHARISMA to seduce a monster in combat. Ever since that time, I always thought it would be pretty cool to implement such a game mechanic. Recently inspired by the PLATO version of Ou...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Today, I'm programming the Ally combat option. What this does is allow the player's Ally/Summoned Monster/Controlled Monster to perform a combat option in the player's stead. Here, Morgannah the Wizard inspects the ally in her inventory, which is an Ogre she controlled by way of magic in a previous ...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I changed the main game menu again and split it into 2 screens: realms5.jpg realms6.jpg (one for starting/resuming game and information and the other for configuring the game options) I removed the FileSystem configuration option. I figure that I will distribute the game into 2 versions: one for emu...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Work continues on the game. I do wonder if I'll ever see the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. But even if the project takes more than a year to complete, I take heart that it took Brian Wilson 38 years to finally complete SMiLE and Victor Hugo 17 years to write Les Miserables. Hopefully ...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

My team of playtesters would like to be able to buy stuff in the castles, so I decided to work on the post-combat treasure finding module. http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/download/file.php?id=1563&mode=view Nice! Disarm n' loot! + try not to get annihilated with the trap in the ...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

I just rewrote my spell damage routine so that it can be reused for other spells. That way, I just pass the lo/hi address at X/Y that the routine can use to cycle through the entire party of monsters if needed (spells have 3 areas of effect: single monster, single row of monsters and all monsters). ...
