Re: 10 CAVE ADVENTURE on VIC-20 (and other CBM BASIC computers)

Even better (because it's still 10 lines of BASIC and still an 8-bit machine and didn't require me to do any work) someone else ported it to BBC BASIC today!

Re: 10 CAVE ADVENTURE on VIC-20 (and other CBM BASIC computers)

Nicely amended!

Do I need to counter with a port to the new Dialog language? :)

Re: 10 CAVE ADVENTURE on VIC-20 (and other CBM BASIC computers)

Neat to see a different take on the same concept! It plays very well.

The substantial difference I note between this and the others is that unless I've missed something, you can't inspect your inventory. Correct?

10 CAVE ADVENTURE on VIC-20 (and other CBM BASIC computers)

Today's episode of 8-Bit Show and Tell features Robin Harbron porting an amazing 10-line BASIC text adventure from the ZX81 to the VIC-20. (It's also been verified to run on C64 and PET 2001). Also making a guest appearance is a port of the game to the Infocom ZIL language, where it's shown running ...

Re: Scott Adams, Infocom and the VIC

So these are elaborations/expansions on the original games and not straight Z-Machine ports? Those have been hanging around for a long time, ala http://mirror.ifarchive.org/if-archive/ ... inform.zip .

Re: Bitshifter's Z-code interpreter

Looks like that worked!

The same off-by-one error also affects the C64 version, presumably the others as well.

(To generate a ton of text in the early going, you can do

n.n.ring bell.read scroll

That will be enough to give even the compact font on the C64 version a run for its money.)

Re: Bitshifter's Z-code interpreter

It looks like the <MORE> routine scrolls one line more than it should, perhaps because it's not accounting for the status line? From the Witness intro: witness1.jpg witness2.jpg But there's a missing line of text, which scrolls by but is then blotted out by the status line: "windows are full of...

Thanks for this! It's all true. And our appreciation to the VCFMW guys who have carried all the weight keeping these shows going in recent years.

ECCC Expo 2010 in Chicago, September 18, 2010

The ECCC Expo is back, and just around the corner. The Chicago area's long-running autumn tradition is technically being held in late summer this year, but don't let that get in the way of your enjoyment of a marathon day of C64 (and VIC!)-focused fun. ECCC 2010 will be held Saturday, September 18 2...

Is there any sort of semi-official thread for organization and wanted-to-buy and so forth, so vendors and traders have an idea of what people are looking to buy? For instance, I'm interested acquiring this not-necessarily-on-the-beaten-path stuff at WOC... - Any +4/16-related stuff (particularly a +...

Want a pickup at the airport? Let me know. That would be delightful. I'll send you my itinerary and see if you're still up for it... I'm also curious if you (or anyone else) has booked their room yet. The motel leaves a lot to be desired and there's a nicer place a block away that charges about $10...

Maybe this isn't exactly the question you were asking, but Jeff, I think your priority should be making it easier for people to discover and play your games. ECCC '07 was something of a revelation about the VIC for me--in part from some of the stuff I saw on the megacart, but mostly from seeing your...
