Re: GandALF, substitute for the MOS 325572-01

That's actually pretty awesome!. I remember some years ago reading of someone reverse-engineering the 325572, using the 1540 long board as a starting point. That someone has crystallized it into new gate array silicon is nothing less than awesome. Another one to tick off the list. The one I really w...

Re: Anybody getting a "Penultimate Cartridge"?

Ordered mine about 6 weeks ago. Order took a few days to fulfill, and it took about 3 weeks to make it to Australia. They even slipped in a "the future was 8 bit" branded biro pen. Nicely made and works just as it should: I love it. (The cartridge, that is!)

(In Australia) I received two the other day - both work fine. Thanks for the stickers, too :) As eslapion mentioned they were well packed, in static foam and a conductive bag and well packed.

Re: Early VIC-20 motherboard repair

I'm getting 404's (link broken) on all those images. General path I follow when troubleshooting black screen failures: Start with voltage rails, then RESET pulse and clock. Then confirm ROM access. Check I/O then RAM access. Once they're working as expected, look back to VIC, and forwards into video...

If you still have any left, I'd love a couple. I've a dead one on the bench at the moment that's working aside from the VIC now, that I'd love to get working..

Re: how does 6502 single step work

I've been trying to figure out ( just curious ) how single step mode in HesMon for the vic 20 works. I know the 6502 has the ability to signal when it is fetching an instruction and I know you can halt the processor ... but doesn't there need to be external hardware onboard to allow such 'single st...

Wow, I never understood that whole epoxy thing. Honestly, I hadn't given it much thought, but I am now glad to know why they did that. I can't find the quote at short notice, but I recall the comment from Bil Herd (C128 / C264 design engineer) that "It was very hard to set fire to a big hunk o...

If it's spinning constantly, AND the drive active LED is flashing - then it's failing its power on self test.

USUALLY that means that the RAM chip, or one of the ROM chips has failed.

How many flashes in each sequence ?

Very obviously a bastard child, I'm afraid. If the CR power plug wasn't a dead giveaway, the mismatched fading between the two halves of the case definitely gives the game away. I've seen indented (Non-PET style) keyboards on 2 Prong first REV boards, but not PET-style keyboards on CR boards. For a ...

Don't forget that the SECAM 2600 is the bastard child of the 2600 family, due to it having a 3 bit (8 colour) palette. Games that actually RAN on the SECAM (French) version were as ugly as sin, and often unplayable.
