I think it got bundled free with early Vic 20s. I remember it came on a tape with bio-rythms and some others.

edit: found it

Re: Blue Meanies from Outer Space

I started working on a version in C using Robert Hurst's SSS but I never could get rid of the flickering in the bottom corner.

Be an interesting project for some one to make an enhanced version with better smoother graphics and a graphical back drop also where they don't stop when you shoot.

Re: Which 6.8V Zener Diode for VIC-20CR?

I guess we may well have differing perspectives on what "standard practice" means... For me, "standard practice" is what I learned in my earlier days maintaining/repairing/upgrading 10,000-watt UHF Command Transmitters on the U.S. Western Test Range, which control large missiles...

Re: Which 6.8V Zener Diode for VIC-20CR?

Ah, I see: provide a "not-incorrect" answer versus a "fully-correct" answer, while also insulting the soldering skills and stated desire of the one asking the question... What I do not at all understand is why one would argue installing an "other-than-spec" part when a...

Re: Which 6.8V Zener Diode for VIC-20CR?

If someone thinks de-soldering a diode is risky, perhaps they shouldn't be attempting a repair like this at all.

The 0.5 watts is the maximum rating for normal use. It's not like a fuse, nothing to say it won't handle more power than that.

Re: Which 6.8V Zener Diode for VIC-20CR?

You can't reliably measure the resistance in-circuit. De-solder it and test it with a mult-meter in diode mode. You can always put it back if it's working fine. A 0.5w can be substituted with a 1W without issues.

Your sprite code seems to be very fast. Once ported to CA65? perhaps it should have its own repo along with some basic instructions and a demo program?

Good find. Vic 20 looks best on CRT anyway.

Sega gamepad adapter

Built this sega gamepad adapter... https://postimg.cc/2qDXcNgL for this... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005245334312.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.21761802DADW9k Works quite well. Nice to have a gamepad at last. If you build it make sure you use the diodes it mentioned as normal...

Re: Kung Fu Flash - like device?

Well I guess the OP can weigh in on whether it satisfies his requirements. I'd say saving and loading is a large slice of the use-case cake, even if a small part of the kernel API. I have a Kung-Fu flash and even that doesn't work with many programs on the c64 as they invariably use custom loaders. ...

Re: Kung Fu Flash - like device?

Is that a deal breaker?

Seems the device fulfils the requirements of the OP and much more e.g. HDMI support. Even supports your VFLI mode.

Re: Kung Fu Flash - like device?

Take a look at SideKick64

https://github.com/frntc/Sidekick64 (works with the Vic-20 using an adapter).

Here's a good video overview.

Downside it requires a Rasberry Pi but I think it works with a Pi Zero 2 which is only about £15.

Re: Diagnostics - Cassette Port Bad

If you have access to a scope it would be worth comparing the read/write lines during the diagnostic test.
