POKE 7424,0 - What is this memory for?
Can anyone tell me what is going on with memory 7424 to 7432? All I can find online is that it is just "User BASIC RAM". I find examples of storing assembly language programs there, too. For some reason, in one of my old games, I did this: FOR A=7424 TO 7432:POKE A,0:NEXT A I am not sure w...

WAV to Emulator - good xfer program?
Since there have only been four topics in this forum with any posts since 2009, I don't know if I will have any luck asking, but here goes anyway... I have a box of VIC-20 tapes of games I wrote, and I am trying to import them. I have used WAVPRG/AUDIOTAP to generate various files, and it has a wind...

Customized charset saved/loaded from tape
I am trying to get my old 1982 VIC programs running in an emulator. I had some editor program that let me customize the character set (likely something I typed in from Gazette). There was some way to save it to tape so it loaded and was usable by the BASIC program. I cannot remember how this worked....

Re: Importing old VIC-20 cassettes
TAP = Physical transfer of the tape itself as a bundle of signals. You can re-write the TAP back to another tape and it should act as if it was the real thing. T64 = An emulator specific container, it's like a tape version of a D64 (disk) file. I heartily recommend NOT using these. PRG = A single p...

Re: Importing old VIC-20 cassettes
Can someone explain the differences in .tap, .t64 and .prg? I seem to have much more success converting the .wav to .prg files, but I don't understand why that would be.
Thanks!

Re: VIC-20 newsletter/magazine on cassette (Fox)- Houston, Texas
Bombjack has some of the leaflets but not the actual tapes http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/newsletters/vixen-fox-20/vixen-fox-20.htm Thanks! I contacted him and will be getting him the tapes. There was a December 1982 issue, as well, so it will be good to see one more item on that page updated. W...

Re: Importing old VIC-20 cassettes
dabone converted my .wav files to .prg and those seem to work better. I tried them myself tonight. But, they auto start and some of mine are loaded in multiple parts, so I have to figure out how to get VICE to load but not auto start I guess. I also ran in to issues with keyboard emulation on the Ma...

Re: Importing old VIC-20 cassettes
FYI - I have documented my progress so far here:

I have a few other tapes that haven't converted at all so they may be dead at this point.

Importing old VIC-20 cassettes
Greetings. I recently found a cigar box of my old VIC-20 tapes and want to bring them in to an emulator. I have hooked up a home stereo tape player (the highest end model Radio Shack was selling back around 98 or so when I bought it) and have been digitizing the tapes to .wav files using Audacity on...

Re: VIC-20 newsletter/magazine on cassette (Fox)- Houston, Texas
I recently found my old cigar box of VIC-20 tapes, including a few issues of FOX 20. Are these already archived somewhere, or is this something I should try to preserve?

Re: VIC-NIC News
I was able to track down some information on this newsletter. I also found the names of the couple that ran the FOX 20 tape magazine, and a notice in a 1984 newsletter of them shutting down due to damage from Hurricane Alicia that swept through Houston that year. (I sure remember that one; we were w...

Re: VIC-NIC News
Specifically, I am looking for a game program listing I submitted back around 1981 or 1982. I believe it was called "Eggs" and it was a "catch the falling objects" game. It was my first published program/article when I was about 12.

Thank you very much -- I missed this, back then, and only recently found it via a Google search.dragos wrote:yes, it was called Fox-20. I have several issues.
I am still trying to track down issues of the VIC-NEW NEWS newsletter which had my first published program, back in 1981 or 1982.

FOX 20 VIC-20 newsletter/magazine on cassette - Houston, Texas
In the days of the VIC-20, there was a magazine on cassette that was published in Houston. I remember going over the their house once to meet them. I think the company name had "FOX" in it.
