Re: Which memory expansions with more than +37K are you using?

Nope, Doom uses +35K:

RAM1,2,3 = 3K
BLK1,2,3,5 = 32K

It does NOT use IO2/3.

Re: Raster split and $9002

Thanks so much for the new test-program! Simpler tests are always better to get to the bottom of the effects. I can confirm that my VIC shows the same strange display with the values you mentioned at the end of your post. I've tried the program with a smaller screen (POKE 36866,11+128). The effect s...

Re: Dragonwing 2

1 multicolor pixel smooth scrolling works! (Look closely at the tileset character pairs and you'll get it) This looks to be the same technique Misift used for "Cheese and Onion". Two tilesets, switched for 1 multicolor-pixel-scrolling and using $9000 for 2-multicolor-pixel scrolling. Am I...

[...] the readout should be done in a screen range, where the video signal itself is not overly modulated. Best candidate seems to be during the VBLANK time. Seeing how badly my VIC-20 has paddle-jitter I tried a similar approach recently. I used the stable-raster-routine to set up a raster-interru...

Re: Paddlescope

Interesting! Do you have an old 2-prong-VIC-20 or a newer CR-model with the DIN-plug for power? The digital replacements (Micromys, et alii) eliminate the impact of the comparator threshold, and thus they are not affected by the Paddle jitter. Looking forward to this or even better a small in-betwee...

Re: Display issue

In my experience, doing the S-Video mod and then using a small S-Video -> Composite adapter gives a better picture than the native Composite-signal of the VIC. Or you could look for an S-Video to RGB adapter.

Re: VIC - why 22 Columns?

The VIC-chip was not designed for a computer, but as an arcade-ship for games. Only when Commodore hat lots of 1K-static RAM chips in stock and needed to design a computer around it, they took the available VIC-chip. That's how I understand it from the book "Commodore - A Company on the Edge&qu...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

I tried on my real VIC with Rev 736 for 20 minutes just now. No B-block appeared. Also I never saw a P-block in the last 45 minutes (real and emulated). I've barely managed to complete the first level this way. Really frustrating... Although I use paddles, at some time the ball just gets too fast to...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Can't say if it works now, since I never got a B-block anymore in the last 20 minutes of play :( While this may be realistic, for testing purposes can you go back to the old behaviour?

Edit: Finally got a B-block. No sound effect at all. Latest VICE as always

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Latest revision (726) as always in VICE 3.1. There never is a sound with the break-extra (when leaving the level to the right). I specifically checked both digis and normal sound. Edit: This sound at 13:58 specifically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Th-Z6QQ5AOQ&t=13m56s Also found an error in ...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

And another test-play with more "dirt" on screen where it doesn't belong. Happened just after entering the level with a B-extra.

Also just noticed the laser can fire through the gold-bricks again, don't think it can on the arcade.
