Re: Sprites and Color Clash

Dragonfire by Imagic is in my opinion the most technically impressive one for it's sprite-techniques which predate VIC-20-Pitfall by about 30 years. Just look at the player "sprite" which is in hires-mode, yet has multiple colors, which are kept even when the player jumps. I think it uses ...

Also see my post here regarding color-clash and how to avoid it.

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

I think the original Commodore-carts only allowed to move right and down with the cursor-keys, just flipping over to leftmost/top-position after a sensible number of moves. HJKL is probably something no one would ever guess without looking at the manual, but they might try using the cursor-keys as w...

This would be a good starting point for your investigations I think: http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7225&p=80464#p80464 Have a look at 4mat's demo-part and see what he does with VICE-breakpoints. Also see my post further down that thread and Mike's explan...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Bad news: that psychopathic turbo capitalism got me by the balls once too often now. If you want to play the full version of "Arukanoido" you'll have to buy a tape. No downloads. Sorry. :( Hmm, while I understand the need to make some money off the game, and I will certainly buy a copy, t...

Re: FOR SALE: VIC20 FULL-RAM expansion cartridge +37K RAM with RESET!

Your binary does not work with SYS4000 (it still loads to $9800). However, I compiled a version to $9c40 a while back to be found here: http://www.tokra.de/vic/2kexpansion/sjload$9c40-s.prg This is most likely the same reduced version that is also on the MegaCart. When compiling SJLOAD you can turn ...

Re: SVIDEO vs SCART

S-Video is definitely the way to go, but you have to make sure your output device actually supports it. Lot of newer TVs don't. Either way, even doing the S-Video-mod and then converting that signal back to composite gives a better quality than the composite-signal the VIC originally produces.

Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

I've found a small bug that would strangely only show on real VIC-20. If you pressed STOP/RESTORE the VIC-20 would sometimes crash and sometimes go back to normal display mode. I've cleared up the vector-setup-routine and this seems to fix it. I've updated the files on my webpage to the most recent ...

ESC is the STOP-key, so far you are correct. "Page up" should be the RESTORE-key. So if you do ESC+PG UP you should get STOP/RESTORE.

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Why not use the existing UltiMem-cartridge for such a project? It is an existing and working platform that provides everything a game like this would need. 8 MB of Flash-ROM and 1 MB of RAM. Hacking together yet-another-cart just seems overkill to me. Anyways, first the game should be completed. Run...

Re: 4ty - 40x25 interlaced text mode on unexpanded VIC 20

Great stuff! I had the same idea a while back, and remember discussing it with Mike, but disregarded it because of the flicker. Kudos for being crazy enough to implement this :D I see that you do not use the "native" interlace-mode when using NTSC. I noticed during my experiments with NTSC...

I like the 4x8 font Mike uses best:

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Very nice! I noticed with the latest build that the startup-music of each level and when missing a ball seems to be missing a note at the beginning.
