Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

Apart from copying and adapting the screen-editor code I did not copy any other functionality from the kernal. Source code attached if anyone would like to expand this. I use the VIC20PrgGen by ajordison.

Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

Ok, here we go. Try the attached file for a bootloader for your BASIC-programs. 10 d=peek(186):n$="program" 20 sys57809"maxiedit-ba00.prg",d,1:poke780,0:sys65493 30 print"{clr}load"chr$(34)n$chr$(34)","d 40 poke44,19:poke43,65:poke4928,0 50 poke631,19:poke632,...

Re: Jiffydos Vic20 issue

There is no special PAL-UK. PAL is PAL. The shfited screen definitely points to an NTSC-ROM - try "PRINT PEEK (36864)" - if you get 12 it's PAL, if you get 5 it's NTSC. Looks like you got the wrong ROM. I'm not a hardware-guy so I cannot say if the drive-problem is also due to this.

Re: Jiffydos Vic20 issue

If the screen shifts to the top and left that is a clear sign that you have installed an NTSC-JiffyDos. As you say you use a PAL-machine I assume that's why things don't work. You should first try to buy a PAL-JiffyDOS, preferably from a legal distributor like Jim Brain: http://store.go4retro.com/ji...

Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

Is there an easy way to automatically load and start Maxi-Edit from a basic game that uses it? Not really, since the video-memory at $1000 has to be increased to accomodate for the larger screen-area and as such the BASIC-start itself moves upward in memory. So, you will need some kind of boot-load...

Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

However for today - at least for the last 10+ years with Denial on-line - the "target audience" has been diminished somewhat: cross-developing on PCs gives a much bigger screen estate to edit the programs, and programmers who don't solely rely upon BASIC always can do direct access on the...

Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

Thanks! I was actually wondering why this has not been done before. Basically I only re-directed the vectors for CHROUT and CHRIN to RAM and copied all the necessary parts of the screen-editor from ROM to RAM. Then armed with a ROM-listing I just needed to change all fixed values of columns and rows...

Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

Ok, please re-download the ZIP-archive. I have updated it for NTSC: 24x26 for MaxiEdit, and 25x29 for UberEdit. I have also included a feature that lets you position the screen using the cursor-keys when using the loader. This might come in handy if your CRT differs from my settings. Mike noticed th...

Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

Theoretically NTSC is possible, but the maximum realistisc visible resolution for TVs would be 24x26 or 25x29 if you take VICE's overscan limits. Not too much of a gain especially since NTSC screen centering seems even more varied than PAL. I think 22x23 was the resolution Commodore considered safe ...

Re: Maxi-/Uber-Edit

Possible for sure, but if you want the maximum amount free for BASIC, it would make more sense to put this program in BLK5 or IO2/3. I suppose this is for a VFLI-modded VIC - in that case you at least will have BLK5 free.
