Re: wAxpander with wAx2

What a wonderful set of tools.

Quick question. Have you thought about adding the ability to chain files from disk- to allow assembly of much larger programs?

 Sorry, forgot about these. Kerosene, did you manage to see the inside of your cart? Nope. I don't want to solder it, so I stopped trying to open it. I think I'm going to have to get a switchable 8K RAM cart. The logical solution would be to just get a Mega-Cart. Another cheap/quick option is...

This is what I'm doing (wrong!): CBM FileBrowser starts and I browse to avenger.prg or gorf.prg and hit RETURN Then it drops out of CBM FileBrowser and back to the VIC-20 BASIC screen with READY. Typing RUN at this stage does nothing. I've tried this with and without a 16K expansion cart. I CAN get...

Really elegantly simple.

Despite not being in a case, only about 1cm or so hangs out the back of the computer once it is installed (giving access to the switches). I was thinking about making my own case, but after plugging it in and looking at it I haven't bothered progressing the idea.

Just got mine and tested it over the weekend.

It is a really impressive (and physically small) solution if all you need is the extra 32k of RAM. Highly recommended.

Woops - only half of the reply made it. That version of Assam runs at $2000 (pretty useless). Get the version that loads & runs at $A000. http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/vic20/roms/tools/8k/Assam.prg Once loaded as a cart (or from disk), a SYS64802 (reset) will install the assembler. Afte...

That looks like the version of Develop 20 I found. I managed to get it to work using the instructions in the book "Inside the Vic" which is on: http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/books-kim-pet-vic.htm Unfortunately I think it was the tape instead of disk version, so a bit annoying. Ultimate...

The French Silk assembler, as I found out, is a little hard to come by. I have tried three different native assemblers: 1. The French Silk "Develop 20" assembler suite (the one I think you are referring to) 2. LADS, from The Second Book of Machine Language by Richard Mansfield, and 3. ASSA...

assam - assembler and monitor

I am hoping someone can help me with this one. I found a copy of this assembler/monitor image somewhere a while back. I am pretty sure that when I found it the SYS calls for the assembler and monitor were on the site, but now I can't find it. SYS700 starts the assembler, and I have worked out many o...

Re: Does anyone have a copy of The Assembler?

I have searched through the forum and cannot find the link to the Assembler software. Can someone please supply the link? Regards, Jonathan Is it the one from French Silk Software you're talking about? We had a discussion about it on the forum a while back. Somewhere on the interwebs is an intervie...

Re: Does anyone have a copy of The Assembler?

Is it the one from French Silk Software you're talking about? We had a discussion about it on the forum a while back. Somewhere on the interwebs is an interview with the guy who made it where he claims it was the only real assembler that could run on an unexpanded VIC. I think someone here put up a...

Does anyone have a copy of The Assembler?

I've seen mention of a very small native assembler for the Vic called "the Assembler". I haven't been able to find a copy online. Does anyone have a copy that I can try out in an emulator?

There seem to be some places on line that have them, such as the following: http://www.arcadecomponents.com/customroms.html I thought $4.99 was pretty reasonable. The real tell-tale was how hot the ROM became - very hot after 5 minutes. That wasn't enough, though. It was actually hotter than the VIC...

After pulling it apart, and picking up a second VIC, I managed to find a dead BASIC ROM. Switched it out - came up pretty quickly.

Seemed a bit odd (to me) for a dead BASIC ROM to produce this set of effects, but that was the cause.

Thanks for all the help.

Same thing happened to me. I thought it was the Character rom but that wasn't it. Sombody else on Denial diagnosed it as a possible RAM problem. One of the ram chips is likely bad and needs to be replaced. Good luck. Barney I think I secretly hoped it wasn't a RAM problem but a socketed chip. Findi...
