Can you use any of the parts on a two-prong VIC on an ordinary VIC-20?

Would this be of any use for copying tape games to floppy disk?

Also, would there be any benefit to using machine language routines for the animation sequences? i.e. in terms of speed and RAM space.

I've already got two copies of the Programmer's Reference Guide, but we may well do business on the VIC Revealed as well as a few of the other books you've just listed.

That's pretty much what I expected to pay in the end. The other day I picked up a boxed, fully-working C64 for £5.50 plus postage. It all comes out in the wash.

I haven't made any adaptions, and so far as I know, my VIC is standard apart from a German VC-20 in the top left corner. I didn't know of any deviations in power supply. I just plugged the C64 one in and it worked a treat. The OP would be better advised to follow Carlsson's judgement in this matter....

You might try looking for a C64 power supply. The VIC is compatible with most C64 leads and peripherals. Ebay is probably your best bet.
