searching for a .tap file with all the best VIC-20 games :)
Hi VIC lovers, A friend recently digged out his old VIC with Datasette, and would like to use it and play those first, old, primitive, but nevertheless compared to new games often more exciting games again. Now, I can find a lot of VIC games on the net, which I could download, transfer to disk and t...

Thanx, DigitalQuirk, I know Ray's tips for years and has helped me quite a lot when I began repairing C64s. Unfortunately I just get a black screen on this one VIC20, for which could be a lot of chips be responsible, and also Ray thinks if a rma chip is bad it could still come up with the start scre...

VIC 20 repairs
I had about 5 dead VIC20s from which I recently repaired 4, as well as 2 from other people I repaired at a meeting some days ago. Now, strange thing is that on all except one of them the kernel or basic roms were dead (one had a bad vic) I have repaired tons of C64, but in the C64 the roms die in a ...

question about vic's ram chips
Just a quick question: There are 5 ram chips in the VIC-20 (CR model): UE1, UD2 and UD2: 1kb x 4 bit 2114 ram U14 & U15: 2kb x 8 6116 ram (or clones) I think UE1 is color ram, while UD2 and UE2 together form the first 1KB of ram starting at $0000 to $0400, each providing 4 bits. And both rams at...

It is not such a big problem in the C64 and VC20 like in the Amiga 4000/1200/600 ones (e.g. sound problems). The C64 only uses a hand full of electrolyt capacitors for lowering voltage ripple, but even if they fail it will not die immediately. If you want to be sure, however, you can swap them for n...

Well, a P-500 would be a nice addition to my C= collection as well :) Hmm, I don't have that much VIC-20 stuff for sale/trade, but I could assemble a nice VC-20 hardware set including this: *) VC-20 computer in very nice condition (not yellowed!) *) old style VC-1541 in white case (without C= logo o...

for sale: Commodore 1525 grafic printer / Seikosha GP-100VC
I have a few Commodore 1525 and Seikosha GP-100VC clones for sale. This one was the 'original' VIC-20 printer besides the 1515. It looks cool and is nice for a complete collection :) They have the same colour as the VIC-20. If anyone is interested please let me know. The printers are located in Euro...

VIC-20 black screen - what do check/replace first ?
I've got about 10 or 15 VIC-20 but 4 of the are dead and produce a 'black screen of death'. I have already done the known checks like e.g. fuse check, reset check, cartridge check, blind load comands, heat check on chips, etc., but to no luck :( I have repaired tons of C64 and the C64 is known for a...

The problem on the 1084 (but 1080 as well) is that the flyback is not fixed very good in^to the pcb, so it may move a bit when the monitor is carried around. This leads to broken/cold solder joints, the monitor starts whistling or the picture stays dark, and the flyback dies shortly afterwards. So, ...
