useful applications for a switch in a VIC-20 ?
Hello, I have a VIC-20 which has reset button and a small switch built into it's case. Now, since the switch is already there, I would like to give it some usefulness. What would you guys do with it ? I thought about a 'cartridge write protector', to make it possible to play uncracked cartrige dumps...

No, they are normal black chips, but original by MOS, no eprom substitutes

Re: is this plunger uncommon?
I think the white one comes from a bit more uncommon C64 Keyboard, which looks almost idenatical to the usual C64/later VIC20 ones, but sounds a little bit different whenn keys are pressed. Also, the keys look identical, but are not 100%. The small cross-shaped hole on the underside, where the plung...

Re: Dead as a Dodo
AFAIK, every VIC-20 with later board sold in Europe came with the power supply 251053-06 (which is the same like the breadbox C64).
Those always have a replaceable fuse, which is Europan form 250V / 160mA T type of fuse.

Re: Diary of a Black Screen Assy 250403 REV D
On a black screen machine, I first check if anything is getting hot ? If everything runs cool, then it helps a lot to try a ram-test kernal instead of the original kernal. It runs completely independent of any ram (uses only the CPU's registers A,X,Y). If a ram chip is dead, but not shorted (if shor...

Re: datasette to pc
I used such a thingy to convert original tapes to .tap files using Markus Brenners PTAP/MTAP ages ago.
But it is plain DOS only, and most modern machines probably do not have a parallel port any longer.

Re: WTB - 2 prong power supply in the UK.
I think the PSU should be able to provide at least 2A, maybe even more, to be able to attach cartridges to the VIC-20.
The original PSU has 3A. (afair?)

recommendations for a switch in a VC-20 ?
Hi VIC-20 lovers, I have a PAL VC-20 which has a reset button and a small switch installed in it's case. However, the switch is currently not connected to anywhere on the board. Now since the switch is already there, I would like to ask for some recommendations what to do with it ? I have thought ab...

for sale: Commodore 1540 Hi-ROM chip: MOS 325303-01
Hello, I am selling some very rare original MOS 325303-01 chips. This is the Hi-ROM 1540 Floppy DOS chip, which makes the difference between a 1540 and a 1541 diskdrive. Most 1540 drives have been converted to a 1541 by swapping this chip against a 901229 from a 1541. I have not seen this chip for s...

for sale: Commodore MOS 6561 VIC for european VC-20 machines
Hello, I am selling some MOS 6561 chips. This is the VIC chip used in the european (PAL) Commodore VC-20 machines. This chip has become rather hard to find lately, but I have more of them than I will probably ever need for my own repairs, so I am selling some of them. I am asking 20,- Euro per piece...

Thanks for the suggestions! However, instead of loading all games into Vice and then saving on .tap file, I could as well save them to a real tape and then make one .tap file from the tape ? Also thanks for the tool, but 50% success rate is not so perfect ;) Anyway, I think the tool I have in mind w...
