Single-core AMD chips are horrible about blocking when there's a lot of stuff going on in the system. Remember, the memory controller is part of the CPU, and even though there's L2 cache there, it's all still one single-threaded mass. Intel's designs have been much more flexible since the introduct...

What VICE version and OS are you using? VICE 1.20 with WinXP SP2 It seems to me that your version of VICE tries to compensate for the fact that something periodically stalls it down. What you get is an average of 100% but you get unstable speeds. My previous AMD Athlon XP processor based system had...

Try the newest version ; what you are describing is one of many bugs in GUI4CBM4WIN 0.4.0 and older that were centered around the fact that the VB6 version would capture the output of OpenCBM into a temporary text file. I've made many upgrades to GUI4CBM4WIN, not least of which is properly spawning ...

I don't believe that OpenCBM (which is what GUI4CBM4WIN is built on) is compatible with the original Windows 98 since OpenCBM compiles to Windows 2000 style device drivers. You may be able to get it working with Windows 98 Second Edition since it uses WDM drivers, but that's still iffy. You'll need ...

1531 are anything but plentiful here in the US, and shipping from Europe wouldn't be too pleasant from a cost or time perspective. The only dead system I have is a 128, and I'm not chopping anything off of a 128 board. I guess I'll have to rig up a regular tape recorder through audio input and use w...

Is there a version of the X1531 cable for C64/VIC-20 tape drives? The info on Joe Forster's site (and everything else on Google's front page) is for the C16 & plus/4 tape drive.

Is there anyone willing to make one of this cables for me?

VIC Tapes

I'm sure this is covered somewhere else, but I could use a quick, succinct answer for this: What is the best way to convert VIC-20 tapes into files that can be used from VICE? Also, are there any programs that takes a VIC-20 tape and converts it to a D64 image?

Thanks!

I wish someone made one of those flash concepts for 2600/7800. Do they? Not that I know of although I haven't spent much time looking as I don't own either of those systems. The guy that made the Colecovision cartridge also makes one for the 5200 (see here ) which makes me wonder why there isn't a ...

I've owned and adored my Adams for years. The word processor for the Adam is actually, VERY good considering the 32 character screen limitation. I've actually got some very good software for it, but it's currently all on digital data packs and I don't use them very often because of very low lifespan...

... since the Mega-Cart may start almost any stored Tape/Disk program too someone has some suggestion ? Can a BASIC program be started from cart? I've always assumed not. I don't see why not. You could store the BASIC code right behind a loader that would copy it from the ROM address space to the B...

I have plenty of systems to test them with using the program linked to. Several of these drives appear to be new or like new. I'm sure at least two of them will be fine. If I can't find two of them that are well aligned we just won't do the deal.

How about $10 plus shipping for two of them in their original boxes?

I have a box full of boxed datasettes, but how do I tell if they are perfectly aligned?
