Re: Advice on a VIC-1020 shell restoration
I always LOVED how the 1020 made the VIC look like a PET. It's cool they chose to use a PET style (shape, font, layout) long label on the 1020 case. The 1020 would look great with an early VIC-20 inside it that has the PET style keyboard. It's interesting how Commodore seemed to use so many differen...

Re: Advice on a VIC-1020 shell restoration
If you do get the sticker off, even if it's not in once piece. 1. reassemble it temporarily (if torn) 2. get it scanned on a large format scanner 3. clean up the image in paint program 4. convert to vector graphic in inkscape 5. save in vector format (like SVG) Then you can get it reproduced somewhe...

Re: How many commercial games were made for the Vic-20?
Not really. The commercial games that were written in 1981-1985 are not becoming more abundant. Very few new ones seems to be found, so that's why I were surprised to see that there wasn't a single list to show them all. I have now added elements from a third list to get a more complete list, but s...

Re: Advice on a VIC-1020 shell restoration
I completely agree with highinfidelity's tips. I've used those techniques before and they are good ones. They are exactly what I would have recommended, including removing the label *before* you paint the case. The only think I would add is that in the case where it's impossible to remove the label,...

Re: Ray Carlsen releases new power supplies and adapters
It's my understanding that for the VIC-20E (two prong early model VIC), the 9V power supply actually isn't dangerous like on the VIC-20CR or C64. There is no 5V rail to fail and over-voltage. The danger in the 2-prong VIC is actually internal (the regulators), from my understanding. Heat/failure. Bu...

Re: Arcade Game Designer
Although I cannot offer help, I would like to say that I was very impressed by the quality of the games produced. I was expecting something more simple and "cookie cutter", but these are as good as any commercial release for the VIC-20.

Re: LumaFix for the C64 (fwd)
There is thermally conductive epoxy that will transfer heat from chip to the heat sink. It's made for doing this sort of thing. Here's a quick example I Googled, although I would not buy it at that price: https://www.amazon.ca/Arctic-Alumina-Thermal-Adhesive-5g/dp/B0009IQ1BU https://www.overclockers...

Re: PET killer POKE detector?
Having said all of that...has anyone actually known/seen a PET be destroyed by the killer poke? Or is it just urban legend? I have never heard of any direct story of a monitor dying, just indirect ones (i.e. "I know a person to whom that happened..."). As for my 8032 PET, when I encounter...

PET killer POKE detector?
Hi, I have a PET 8032 (actually a SuperPET) and it's one with the video chip that can be affected by the killer POKE that speeded up the video of the older machines, but could damage later PETs. The poke is: POKE 59458,62 Now, I have hundreds of pieces of PET software downloaded from the internet an...
