Has anyone CRACKED copy protection yet???
I suppose this question is most relevent to the C64. But it still applies to the VIC-20. One of the things I hated the MOST about the Commodore 8 bit computers was the horrendous copy protection schemes inflicted onto disk based software. Of course, years ago we could buy some copy programs and toda...

How to share VIC-20 programs?
Hi all, I finally got an XM cable so I can connect my VIC-20 or 1541 disk drive up to my PC. That's important. I can't share my work over the intenet without going through my PC. So now it's the holiday season and I'm thinking about sharing some VIC-20 holiday music and maybe (MAYBE) a tree with bli...

Many years ago my brother recorded sounds via the paddle controller inputs. It was on an Atari 600XL but the same principal would apply. It worked great until one day he turned the volume on the pre-amp too high and blew the ability to read the paddles. That would take care of sampling via VIC-20. T...

Re: Typical Collectors' Problem
I got two new carts in a trade...in pristine shrinkwrap...I am thinking of taking an exacto knife to it because I've never seen such pretty shrinkwrap...what would you do? I have a Synthesound cart still in the shrink wrap. I remember this cart from when I was a kid. So far, I don't have the guts t...

Newbie programming questions
Hi all. Finally got a working VIC-20. Last time I programmed a VIC was in the early 80s. That VIC died and I mom replaced it with a C64. That was a LONG time ago! Now I have another working VIC-20 with a few programming tools: Super Expander (as I recall this SUCKED because it had a "fake"...

Thanks for the tips. I tried the freeze trick and that didn't help any but sure did make a mess. Gotta let that VIC dry out for a while. Since the problem occurs right away I don't think it has anything to do with heat. Some chip is fried. I just need to figure out which one. Since some carts work b...

Fixing broken VIC with garbage display
Hi, My original VIC died *years* ago and I only recently replaced it. It worked for about 2 weeks and then POOF, it died too. Fortunately, I'm a big boy now and I can get another one without crying to mom. But I'd really like to fix the dead one. Here is the problem: when I turn the VIC on instead o...
