Re: The Amiga Thread

I felt the A500 was a huge upgrade over my C64. (A 128 would have resulted in a smaller upgrade, with the 80-column screen - something I used to great benefit with my modem use.) The upgrade in gaming quality was significant - stereo sound, much better graphics. And multitasking was no small thing. ...

Re: The Amiga Thread

I haven't used my Amiga in a long time (I really should check it) but sometimes, I miss it. It was a really fun system to use. Granted, this was before I had a computer network or even the Internet. I did use BBSes on it a lot. I started with a stock Amiga 500 with A590 sidecar, eventually maxed out...

Re: 1541 drive and faulty 6522 chip

Did you try accessing it as device 9, 10 or 11 (instead of 8) just to make sure someone didn't cut a trace to change the device number on it?

Re: New Old Stock Datasettes

These look exactly like C2Ns to me, but the box is weird (mentioning the 64 and 128 but not the VIC-20 e.g., and not saying Commodore). If I had to guess (and this is just a guess), someone at some point got a huge lot of unboxed brand new C2Ns and got boxes made for them. This wouldn't be without p...

Re: 4040 dual floppy

I would not be slow or expensive, it's plain impossible. You just don't have enough control lines there to have an operational GPIB interface for Commodore drives. My instinct is that you could possibly convert IEEE-488 to the IEC bus (maybe with some sort of intermediary device to do control). It'...

Re: Mini 32K RAM expansion hides in your cartridge port.

Nope, you need a 35K expansion for that, like the Ultimem or Penultimate Cartridge 2. The 32K expansion can have either 3K-RAM at $0400 or 8k-RAM at $a000, not both at the same time, which is needed for Doom. Presumably a cartridge slot expander + 32kB expander + an original Commodore 3kB expander ...

Re: Out of memory on this line

Popping out of a for/next loop will have the same effect on the stack as gosubbing without returning. If you need to hop out of a for/next loop, the correct technique is to assign the for variable to the top value required by your loop, and then execute one last next and then move on, e.g. 10 FOR T=...

Re: VIC 20 book on Kickstarter

Do you know how many copies would make hardcover versions viable? If you do and the existing price is still adequate, you could make it a stretch goal.

How long does it take to receive the order confirmation via email after having placed the order ?
It's been about three years since I ordered mine, but I think it took a few days, and then several months for a status update.

Heh. I think it took me about a year to get mine, but it's worth the wait.

Re: VICMODEM

Bo, originally Commodore was going to supply the phone with a detachable handset cord - these phones were rare in Canada at the time - so that you could use the VICmodem the way Americans were meant to, by putting the handset cord into the jack in the modem. The phones were ordered from Northern Tel...

Do the games run properly on NTSC machines rather than PAL?

Very curious... looks like a terrific set of games.

I placed an order yesterday, but I haven't received a followup email. Should I be concerned that my order wasn't received, or does it take some time to get a confirmation?

I assumed that one would pay when that email came, or does one pay when the unit is closer to production?

Our member TNT was able to do the magic, creating the VIC version of Z machine interpreter and story disks for almost all the early 'classic' titles from Infocom. That's seriously cool. Any chance we could get the save game feature added to it and get it released? I for one would definitely use it....
