Re: 16 luminance levels
... or perpetuated Wikipedia nonsense: empirical evidence (using a real VIC-20 and a CRT and turning down saturation) tells otherwise. I've never understood this; someone posts a whole bunch of made-up nonsense on Wikipedia, and it then becomes the Word of God and is the work of Sysiphus to get it ...

16 luminance levels
Somewhere, I saw a discourse between a few people about the 6560/61 having 16 luminance levels, whereas the commonly accepted knowledge is that it only has 5. Do any of you know where this article is, as I didn't bookmark it at the time?

Re: Paged EEPROM
I'd say typically an EEPROM device is a smaller byte read/writable device. These were around before flash came along and changed the game. I've seldom seen a flash being referred to as an EEPROM. Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EEPROM Gosh, how did I get as far as being nearly old without knowi...

Re: Paged EEPROM
I want to have $A000-$AFFF as the master control program, libraries, all that sort of thing, and then lots of different images mapped into $B000-$BFFF with different data sets, or parts of a much larger data set that can't fit into the normal ROM space.

Re: Paged EEPROM
I don't suppose there exists an expansion cartridge that is one (or preferably more) largest EEPROMs setup to map into the $A000-$AFFF and $B000-$BFFF spaces, but with banking registers so you can select which block of EEPROM appears in each of the ranges? Are you looking for a chip or a ready made...

Re: Victor Progress
Is there still hope though that the final PCB will have a footprint comparable to the original size of the VIC chip? I've got a friend with a good pick'n'place machine and reflow equipment, so I have every expectation that the final board will fit in a DIP40 outline, but it'll take a couple of trie...

Kung Fu Flash - like device?
Wotcha! So I asked about banked EEPROMs, and they don't seem to really exist in a form in which I could use them. So how about something like the Kung Fu Flash, which pretends to be a floppy drive by taking over some of the vectors from the KERNAL, pulling data off a microSD card super fast, and rea...

Victor Progress
For those of you with pachydermal memories, you may recall that I was using an FPGA to develop a replacement for the 6560/61 VIC chip. This project stalled for quite a while because of ill health and another project I wanted to finish. I'm now restarting work on Victor, and the next task is to creat...

Victor at VCFSW (June 14-16th 2024)
If you are in Dallas for Vintage Computer Festival South West this year, I'll be demonstrating Victor.

Re: Audio to expansion port
You could design a cartridge with a SID in it and feed the output back using pin Y so that it comes out through the regular AV DIN connector on the back of the machine.

Playing better notes
I read, somewhere, of a program that toggles between two values in a sound register to produce frequencies closer to real notes - do any of you know what I'm talking about and where I could get it from?
