Re: Jeff's VIC 20 Book

vic book.jpg
Picked up my copy in person at VCF Midwest. I was fortunate enough to have a table next to Jeff, it was a pleasure to meet you sir! I foresee this book becoming an essential part of my VIC experience.

Re: Vintage Computer Festival South West and VICs

Oh hey, I'm a bit late to the party. This was my exhibit at VCF Southwest 2023: 20230623_134536c.jpg 2 tables, 3 monitors, and up to 3 VICs running at once. Here is the 1001 and the early US model: 20230623_134447.jpg Here's the 16K prototype: 20230623_134504.jpg On top of the TV is the "brown ...

Re: New penultimate-plus-2-cartridge

Mine arrived earlier this week, and it was packed well enough to be thrown off a 5 story building and survive the trip. Man, this cartridge is loaded for bear with all sorts of fun software. I like the new RAM config options too Edit: I should proof-read better in the future. I didn't mean to imply ...

Re: VIC-20 16K Prototype

ramlayout2.JPG ramlayoutlisting2.JPG Alright, here's the updated version that I plan to put on the webpage about these boards. I've also taken some better lit photos of the mystery SRAM on the brown board: ram highlighted.jpg It sure looks like an MOS part to me. MPS 2114, 30L 2280 Does that seem l...

Re: VIC-20 16K Prototype

36869 has a different mapping from how you interpret it (it's not the high byte of any address, but rather encodes the screen and character base address in its higher and lower nibble, respectively) Then I will remove the 256 multiplier. FRE(0) 'misses' the space already occupied by your test progr...

Re: VIC-20 16K Prototype

You know, y'all might have something there. I measured the startup time, and it's closer to 19 seconds from when I throw the switch. 15S instead of 155 makes alot more sense now. I'd like to be able to post a definitive memory map of this unique VIC, and I can think of no better place to ask than he...

VIC-20 16K Prototype

Howdy, A few weeks ago at VCF East, I spoke with Robert "Bob" Russell, one of the VIC Commandos. I don't know what convinced him to do so, but he gave me a pair of later VIC-20 prototype boards. First, the 16K VIC-20 Prototype. This machine is an internal prototype from Commodore of a VIC-...

Re: VIC exhibit at VCF East 2021

Great exhibit - I see you even have a Commodore phone (which as far as I am aware was only sold in Canada - correct me if I'm wrong - it came with the Canadian version of the VICmodem). Correct, it did. It's just a rebadged Northern Telecom phone. http://commodorez.com/img/commodorephone.png The pr...

VIC exhibit at VCF East 2021

Last weekend was Vintage Computer Festival East XVI, and I decided to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the North American release of the VIC-20. https://www.commodorez.com/img/vicat40.jpg I approached it from three angles: early VIC, common VIC, and late VIC Early was the 1001006 motherboard w/ rev...

Rally VIC

Howdy, I figured this was a good a place as any to talk about a modified VIC-20 I resurrected from the ashes of several busted VICs a few years back. https://www.commodorez.com/img/silvervic1.jpg I call it the Rally VIC. The case was a spare I got in a haul a few years back, marred with scuffs and g...

Re: For new users - make a post or say hello

Howdy. I'm Commodore Z, most folks call me Z. I've been a vintage computer enthusiast for over half of my life now, starting with a C64. About a year or two after that, I picked up a VIC-20, and found it uniquely endearing. Since then, it's managed to earn its place as my favorite machine you would ...
