Re: Display PAL in the United States

Can't remember the exact model, but there are DELL montors with DVI, VGA, composite and S-video inputs which unfortunately only works well with NTSC sources. Those monitors were even sold in Europe, in "PAL-land"! For those monitors, the trick is, according to what I've read online, to fee...

Re: VIC - why 22 Columns?

At the time VIC 20 were desgned, there were of course no hardware reason to put the screen at 7680 and not at 4096 even without block 1 memory. By putting the screen at 4096 there wouldn't had been any reason to optimize for maximum usage of 512 bytes, at least not with 1024 nybbles of color ram. T...

Re: Going on a VIC raid

All the memory expansions I have sold are based on 32k and 8k static RAM chip because they are now cheap. They were quite expensive in the early 80s hence the incentive to develop DRAM based expansion. Have you ever had any issues with timing? Using chips bigger than 8k for the block 1/2/3/5 and 1k...

Re: VIC - why 22 Columns?

The ZX-80 and ZX-81 actually had a trick where video memory did contain line feeds so you didn't need the full 32*24 screen in memory. This was only active when the total amount of ram were less than a few K (for ZX-80 expansions of 1/2/3k were afaik not uncommon, while for ZX-81 the standard expans...

Re:

Sorry for thread necrophilia deluxe, but I've had one of these boards myself once upon a time. IIRC I soldered in a pass through connector on mine. I think I had four dip switches, but my memory may be incorrect. I also had a three port motherboard that were obviously from the same manufacturer. Tha...
