Tank Commander - F7 for interlace

Im the Thorn EMI game 'Tank Commander', the instructions say press :- ... f7 for interlace Doing so doesn't seem to change anything as far as I can tell. Does anybody know what the purpose of this is or was meant to be? (I am fully aware of what interlace is, and do not need a description of interla...

Re: Pole Position not working on Vice

Many thanks to you both beamrider and Mike, I can confirm both your methods work. @Mike, I do appreciate your description of how to attach the ROMs, suddenly now I understand why so many files have hex addresses in their file names! @beamrider, I also appreciate your description of how to start up t...

Re: Pole Position not working on Vice

That's great, thanks for the link to the ROM! Sorry to be a pain but how do I use it in Vice? I don't find the menus very logically laid out in Vice. Please could you be specific about each step, i.e. Preferences -> settings -> Cartridges -> Megacart -> Browse to ROM Having done that, I just get the...

Re: Pole Position not working on Vice

Thanks for the reply. I tried to follow your instructions as follows: Settings-> Preferences -> Machine -> Model -> Memory Expansions -> All SmartAttach -> Pole Position-a000.prg new SmartAttach -> Pole Position-6000.prg File -> Reset -> soft reset But I just ended up with a boot screen with 28159 b...

Pole Position not working on Vice

I have a few different copies of Pole Position, either called Pole Position-a000.prg or Pole Position-6000.prg but neither works with Vice.
Could anybody point me to a working version please?

Re: Bongo won't start

Resurrecting this thread 3 years later... I still haven't found a way to get Bongo working with SD2IEC on the real VIC.
The .prg at zimmers.net works in VICE (press joystick FIRE to start) but hangs on the real VIC.

Re: Display issue on PAL VIC-20

I would also say it is 'normal' - but annoying.
I've seen similar effects called 'chroma crawl'.

Re: Dead VIC resurrected!

I have good news to report! The Chip Select line looked messy on a 'scope, but compared with a working VIC it looked very similar. That could easily have led me down the wrong path. I bit the bullet and snipped off each leg of UE2, and then de-soldered each leg individually. I cleaned up and soldere...

Re: Dead VIC resurrection

Assuming it's an original PAL then the section of the circuit diagram of interest is http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/schematics/computers/vic20/324001_3.gif The diagnostic seems to indicate the fault memory is bits 4-7 of RAM0 so the chip to replace should be UE2. Many thanks! I agree this s...

Dead VIC resurrection

My first Vic has been dead with a black screen since the end of the 80s :-( but recently I've used the 'dead test' mode of the Penultimate+ cartridge http://blog.tynemouthsoftware.co.uk/2019/02/vic20-dead-test-plus.html and amazingly, the test runs, and produces a test result showing a fault in 'RAM...

Re: It's working! Full motion video on a VIC-20 (+3K)

There is a weird echo at one point in the video, suggesting that the VIC sound is playing in parallel with another sound source?
A fantastic achievement nonetheless.

Re: Hardware assisted Games

This fits into a category of getting the best performance possible from an unmodified VIC. Imagine an alien cartridge appeared in the shops in 1984, you plugged it into your VIC and it acted as a co-processor to boost all calculations. Making the main job of the VIC to copy the video pages the cartr...
