Re: Famicom-music on VIC-20

This is epic! Will be fun to play around with this when I get time. I'm a particular fan of Kirby's Adventure and Gradius, so I'll be excited to see how they sound on the VIC. :D Thanks! Just for fun I ran the only song I recognized from that game through the script. It's kinda... shrill. This one ...

Re: Introduce Yourself: What's your User Name based on?

Very good! I don't know if Im allowed to do that, but ... welcome to this huge community! Apparently, age doesn't matter when it comes to liking the vic20 Thank you! Yeah, the VIC was one of my first real-world experiences with a computer that let me get deeper into the theory behind computer syste...

Re: Introduce Yourself: What's your User Name based on?

Well, uh, so yeah. I've actually been a member here for about five years now, but it's been a while since I last was active so I wanted to introduce myself again. My name is Gorf (but I go my Europa most other places), I'm 18, and I love the VIC-20. It's what really got me into collecting computers ...

I would scan the box, but I don't have a large enough scanner and the box is ripped up anyway. If I have any carts that need scans, I can scan those in though. :)

Re: Cartridge and box variants - help needed

I'll try and get into my VIC stuff sometime over the next few weeks and look at my cartridges and stuff. I know my box variant is of the A-1 variety though.

Ghislain wrote:35K is also fairly common as well and there is even 37K that is becoming an option.
I thought that the VIC's memory map for expansionn memory was capped at 35K (but then again my knowledge of said memory map is a little iffy)

Re: RetroNET for VIC-20

RetroNET is no fundamentally different from what can already be done with a WiModem (see here ). Except WiModem directly plugs into the userport, and RetroNET requires yet another set of level shifters to adapt the signals between TTL and RS232C. If you have a VIC-1011A and a RS232C 25pin-to-9pin-a...

Re: RetroNET for VIC-20

Depends on what the lowest baud rate it supports. The VIC can only do up to 2400 baud, and flow control is a problem. You'd have to use a software method like XON/XOFF as the KERNEL routines don't support symmetric RTS/CTS hardware flow control. Ok, thanks! Hopefully this will work, it looks like a...

RetroNET for VIC-20

I was watching a video on this device and it was stated in the video that you could adapt this device to work on any computer with a serial port. I think it would be neat to get this working on the VIC-20, so I was wondering if anyone knew how hard it would be to adapt this to use the VIC's serial p...

Mac OS 9 (and X) Programming

So, some backstory: I was thinking about programming for the Macintosh (Mac OS 9 specifically, although X would also be awesome) and I thought it would be neat to program a war-dialer that took advantage of the built-in modem of the Power Mac G4 systems. I'm working on learning C++ and C with the he...

And thanks to Gorf, too: I was really curious to know if the game was OK on an NTSC machine. It should play a little faster than on the PAL hardware and so it is a little more difficult.
You're welcome, I'm glad I could be of assistance.

I could try the game on my PAL hardware, but I would be happy if someone can give a feedback on a real NTSC machine.
I can say that it works nicely on my NTSC VIC. :D
