Re: WTB: Large Two-Prong Connector or Complete 230VAC transformer

Ow, and I forgot the best part. The transformer came with a computer as well. My search for a transformer has given me two additional vic-20's!

Re: WTB: Large Two-Prong Connector or Complete 230VAC transformer

Oh Commodore, you were full of surprises.

I'm working on a custom power supply for my C64 that can handle VIC's with a DIN-style power connector too. Unfortunately, I still have not found a plug for my two VIC's with two-prong connector. My search continues!

Re: WTB: Large Two-Prong Connector or Complete 230VAC transformer

Ouh, I got it I think. KBLSLGR never told anything about that his VIC is a US one, but somehow I got under the impression... To me it now looks more like his one in an old PAL unit. I think you are interpreting srowe's words wrong. I do have a PAL-model, like you, but one that's a bit younge...

Re: WTB: Large Two-Prong Connector or Complete 230VAC transformer

But if you are willing to ship it to another European state, I'd like to think I'm still first in line ;) A UK plug is easily converted to one used on the other side of the channel! I promise not to butcher anything but use a proper travel adapter.

Re: WTB: Large Two-Prong Connector or Complete 230VAC transformer

No problem! I sort of expected that already. The spacing between pins of an electric shaver plug is about 6 mm, whereas I am looking for something with a spacing of 10mm ~ 11mm (according to my own inaccurate measurement). I am considering replacing the connector on my second (more recent, having a ...

Re: WTB: Large Two-Prong Connector or Complete 230VAC transformer

Could you maybe upload a picture of your connector? I am curious what connector you used. I've seen a couple of different once at a local thrift shop, but none of them looked like an ideal fit.

Re: Blank screen, pointers on how to diagnose

Useful hint: unless we are talking about a run-of-the-mill part, always check the suspicious chip in a working unit, not the other way round. If there's something in your faulty VIC-20, that killed the KERNAL ROM (or VIC, or VIA, or another rare chip for that matter), it will likely also kill the w...

Re: NEW GAME RELEASE - Rush (2015) by Revival Studios

I came across this thread while looking for a YouTube video of Rush. I'll take the plunge and order it anyway, just because I love the fact that games are still being released on tape! Also, this takes me back to the pre-internet days where you'd basically had to judge a game by its cover. And boy, ...

Re: Introduce Yourself: What's your User Name based on?

I am new to this board (although I did read many helpful posts here) and maybe it would be nice to introduce myself. My nickname is KBLSLGR which I obtained by removing the vowels from the Dutch word "kabelslager". A kabelslager was someone who made and sold cables and ropes. There is abso...

WTB: Large Two-Prong Connector or Complete 230VAC transformer

Hello all, Recently, I've secured my first two VIC-20's. Both require the large two-prong connector (see attachment) and both came without a transformer :( Right now I am feeding my VIC-20 using a 230 VAC->9VAC transformer salvaged from a modem-rack and some crocodile clams. Ideally, I'd solder an o...

Re: Blank screen, pointers on how to diagnose

Just a quick update. I managed to secure a second, working VIC-20! Now see if I can use its KERNAL rom to revive the first.

Re: Blank screen, pointers on how to diagnose

No, both my early VICs have no shielding around the video circuitry. That's a relieve! I found it hard to believe someone had tampered with it, considering the (otherwise) pristine state the motherboard was in. From experience I think the KERNAL ROM is suspect. Having a working VIC to exchange part...

Blank screen, pointers on how to diagnose

Hello ladies and gentlemen of this fine forum, This is my first post here, but that doesn't mean I haven't read anything. As a matter of fact, I've been reading quite a bit to solve this problem I am having. I recently found a VIC-20 at a local flea market. It's an older model with the big two prong...
