Re: VIC Light Cycles

Thanks for the feedback! The bike animation took some doing, it was my first time using "half-character" animation (4 pixels at a time). I could make the animation smoother with finer movement, but I'm not sure it would provide much benefit for needing a bunch more character definitions. I...

Re: Upcoming H.E.R.O. game

Just had a go in VICE, this is a wonderful version! The graphics are colorful and detailed, the animation smooth and gameplay is spot-on. Shame this wasn't released back in the day, it would have been a big hit I'm sure! (although few in the 80's would have had the necessary RAM expansion)

Re: Vicross and 2048

I had the good fortune to be situated next to the author of these at 2016 ECCC convention in Chicago, and got to playtest both 2048 and VICROSS. I'm glad to see they've finally been released!

Re: WIP: Doom

Probably best to downgrade to 22d again. 22e has issues with trying to flash programs to the firmware for the cart menu. It doesn't work and the menu locks up. Thank you for posting this, I was about to start a new thread regarding this exact same issue. I'll try downgrading tonight. Whoever mainta...

Re: WIP: Doom

Update: I updated my FE3 firmware to REV 22E and the problem still exists.

Crosstalk reports blocks 1>0, 2>0, 3>0, 5>0 with either 22D OR 22E...

Re: WIP: Doom

What firmware are you using?
Hmm, I just checked and it came preloaded with 22D.

I'll try upgrading to 22E and report back..

Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Re: What do you love or hate about the VIC-20?

Yeah. Especially in the view what VIC-I can do with this palette: Those photos are amazing! Be honest, these examples are light years beyond what the engineers even dreamed was possible with VIC-1. :) At any rate, the color palette is a personal preference. The color choices are fine; I'd just like...

Re: WIP: Doom

Aha! Thank you so much for sharing this, I suspected it was a known issue with FE3 but missed the thread you linked me to. Hopefully there will be a new firmware that will address the crosstalk issue at some point. I'd suggest that FE3 distributors add a mention of this issue to FE3 docs as a "...

What do you love or hate about the VIC-20?

Preface: I grew up with a C64, I didn't have a VIC-20 (or even use one) until the late 90's, early 2000's. So my experience will likely be different from those of you who grew up with a VIC. I've been using the VIC more recently, discovering everything published for it that I missed out on. And it'...

Re: VIC-20 Software Releases of 2017

2048 is one of my favorite mobile games, so this is a welcome VIC addition for me. :) One thing though, the numbers don't seem to add up correctly here. At least, they don't add up the way they do in every other version of 2048 I've every played. For example, if I join 2+2, this game gives me '3' (s...

Re: WIP: Doom

Hey guys, I recently purchased one of the new VIC-20 Final Expansion 3 Rev 11 carts produced by e5frog and SkydivinGirl, and I'm trying to get Doom to run. I can get as far as the level loading screen, then it crashes back to a blinking cursor. Half the time, it doesn't even get past the init screen...

Yeah but it seems the 30 programs are predefined and not changeable (unless I'm missing something).
If they were programmable that would be a plus...
