Re: Bluetooth Vic20

Here is the link to my Android code - please feel free to add this functionality. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BypVxYomFCZfQXlIN3pfdGNoalE/view?usp=sharing
I'll definitely take a look, though (a) I'm not the best coder, and (b) my VIC is down with a dead VIC chip. There's always VICE, t...

Re: Bluetooth Vic20

I still think it's of very limited use as it ocupies valuable memory and thus would also be unable to work with any program that loads into all available RAM (i.e. most of them).
But not impossible. That's what I take issue with; it's not impossible, however unlikely it's usage would be. Why...

Re: Bluetooth Vic20

This cannot act as a substitute for an sdIEC device as it requires a loader program to be loaded first and is also much slower. That doesn't mean it can't , it just means it's unlikely to appeal to many. For me, it's quite appealing. I can handle typing in a 25-ish line BASIC program pretty easily ...

Re: Bluetooth Vic20

File transfer is less of an atraction as the sdIEC fills this niche quite well already. I would like to point out that the sdIEC is much more expensive than the prices you guys are speaking of here; furthermore, from a hardware standpoint, this is simpler for the DIY-er (of which there are many of ...

Re: Bluetooth Vic20

Android phones can be had cheaply, too, if you don't need the service to go with it. Actually, my current normal phone was $28 at Walgreens (ZTE Zinger from the T-Mobile pre-paid section). Dual-core processor and everything. More than enough for this app.

Re: Bluetooth Vic20

Should be pretty simple to port Chris Baird's code to load programs via serial to use Bluetooth. There's a PC-side element, but he provides source code, so it might be portable to Android.

R6520

Hi everyone, I recently picked up a few chips, and in the bunch were two R6520 chips. These appear to be PIA chips from a PET. Does that sound right? I've no familiarity with these chips, nor use for them I don't think. <checks around for a PET> Nope, no PET here. Any value in these chips? Obviously...

Re: Blank screen VIC-20 -- seems to be power supply?

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I'm at +4.96v DC, so I think we're good there. I have some 74LS138s in the mail (picked up 5 of them off eBay for $3). I was afraid that you were gonna say the 6502 was toast. Good to know I can use the R6502, I've seen a few of those on eBay go for inexpensive. Thanks ag...

Re: Blank screen VIC-20 -- seems to be power supply?

Thanks srowe. /RESET is high, so that appears alright. Question for anyone who might know -- there are a few chips that get really hot. I'm wondering what's normal. And by hot, I mean uncomfortable to leave your finger on for more than 5 seconds. Hot chips: 6502 processor (UE10) - gets really hot, l...

Re: Blank screen VIC-20 -- seems to be power supply?

Man, I'm full of forum posts today. Figured out my AC issue -- cheap multimeter! Pulled an older, but higher quality multimeter out of my tool box, and now no AC voltage anywhere.

Lesson: beware of red herrings provided by inferior tools.

Still have a blank screen on my VIC-20CR, though.

Re: Blank screen VIC-20 -- NOT power supply?

Alright, more analysis. The AC on the DC rail doesn't seem to be my problem -- on a whim, I checked for AC on my breadboard, which is totally separate from anything else. It, too, has 9.6v AC along with the DC. Does that seem right to anyone? I'm out of my depth on that score, but if other circuits ...

Blank screen VIC-20 -- seems to be power supply?

Good day, VIC-20 aficionados. My VIC-20CR finally went permanent blank screen on me, after having blank screen issues on and off ever since I pulled it out of storage months ago. I thought the VIC had finally died, but while casting about online to find ways to prove or disprove this (I have no seco...

That's what it was, couldn't remember if they were output or input, but I did remember they were all off.

Thanks!

Re: +5v on most user port pins

Thanks Mike, that's reassuring to hear. I've worked with PIC processors in the past, and I believe their ports default to outputs on power-on. I'm not used to seeing voltage unless something specifically tells it to be there.

Thanks again.
