Re: Australian type-in cricket game?

There is a Cricket game in this C&VG magazine You can download here https://worldofspectrum.org/archive/magazines/cvg-book-of-games-iii/33/0/1984/7/0 It says it's a Spectrum game but has a poke command at the top of the listing, and I have no idea if poke commands apply to Speccies. If it's not ...

Re: Retrobright keyboard disaster and fix

Glad this has helped some people. I have an even better method now for retrobrighting. I successfully retrobrighted an Apple 2e by using lightbrighting only. Clean everything first, then place out in the Sun, on a day no hotter than 28 degrees C. This can take quite a few days, so no good if You don...

Re: VIC-20 was working, now dead unit

I suggest You look here for the proper userport pin descriptions. Pins 10 and 11 are the 9 or 10v AC, Pin 2 is 5v dc. http://www.ntrautanen.fi/computers/hardware/misc/vic_user.htm When testing the switch leave the unit unplugged, and because it's a switch the contacts when closed should be as close ...

Re: Retrobright keyboard disaster and fix

The only way to retrobright and stop the horrendous results like streaking, etc, is to put the plastic fully immersed in a water/hydrogen peroxide mixture, so that none of it can dry out whilst the process is underway. Retrobrighting non white plastic is asking for trouble though, so limiting the ex...

Re: Retrobright keyboard disaster and fix

I just saw your post by chance, so a bit lucky there. I noticed the same thing, if You put them in water they look great until they dry out again. Here's a photo of what I used, it could also be called scouring creme elsewhere. I just put some of this onto a clean rag and polished the colour back in...

Re: Trying to load Doom but need help please

The only real problem I had with this game was when using a 65C02 or Rockwell 6502 which caused some minor graphics glitches. Either a real MOS 6502 or UMC clone works perfectly. Other than that I vaguely remember trying without the 3k expander once and the game went no further than the loading scre...

Re: Commodore VIC-20 Cartridges

Hey thanks for that. I downloaded it for keeps. It will come in handy as there a few games there that are good and I haven't played yet on my Vic.

Re: PET keys?

Nice VIC-20 Bobbi. It looks like it hasn't been used hardly since new.
If I buy another one, it will be from the States. The prices here in Australia are getting ridiculous on Ebay.

Re: PET keys?

Yeah, the PAL models never had that fitted. Also there is an extra IC, UB10, a 74ls74 which is involved
with the cpu and Vic frequency circuit.

Re: PET keys?

Here's my Pet key Vic20. Some of these photo's are in a retrobrighting thread I made here. This is a PAL model.
Originally had a MOS 6502 and 6561E.

Re: Retrobright keyboard disaster and fix

I finally finished this laborious task. I would suggest these retrobrighting instructions for instances where the tops of the keys are yellowed. Use 12% (40 vol) Salon Creme Peroxide on the tops only. Cover with cling wrap and leave in the sun for no more than 90 minutes at a time, then thoroughly w...

Re: Strange problem with my TV Monitor

It sounds a lot to me like Your monitor needs degaussing, also known as demagnetising. Specifically the tube. There were various fixes for this with TV sets. 1. The degaussing components were faulty and needed replacing 2. The TV needed to be turned off at the wall for a few hours then at turn-on th...

Retrobright keyboard disaster and fix

I really wish I had done more research before trying this on my PET Style keyboard and computer case. The case turned out fine, no streaking whatsoever, and at some point I may give it another shot to whiten it a bit more. For now though it's a major improvement, not that my VIC was terrible or anyt...

Re: VIC-20 Video Fault

Wow! I only just saw this. I have the exact same combination, and I'm in Brisbane. I got mine for under $60 locally a few years ago now. Mine has the same revision pcb, but keyboard has the pet-style keys. Check and see if any of the rom chips are extra hot, also check ram chips, they should be only...

Re: Silly Keyboard Cleaning Question

If cleaning doesn't make the keys work as intended, there are 2 other options. 1. Get some conductive paint and paint it on. 2. What I have done, which is to use a paper hole punch and punch out some small circles of aluminium foil and glue them to the rubber pads. This also works well for most remo...
