Re: Noise generator implementation in VICE

As far as I can tell it does produce a correctly *sounding* result, but since the theory and implementation does not seem to match, who knows if it really is correct? Proving that it's correct would require recording samples at various frequencies and comparing them to the ground truth. Anyway, as a...

Re: Noise generator implementation in VICE

I double checked the output of a real vic-20 and my vic emulator using an oscilloscope and indeed there is something weird going on... I can confirm that the noise frequency is twice as much as it should be. Since both two independent implementations produces the same (incorrect) result I have to co...

Re: Noise generator implementation in VICE

I thought you were using code provided by nippur72. Looking at his code in the first page, I can see at least that the frequency counter is not compared against 127 to use as a trigger when to advance the waveform (as described by Lance). This also explains why poking 255 in the frequency channel ov...

Re: Noise generator implementation in VICE

Your noise implementation does not match with what Lance described in the reverse engineering thread. This is what I have used in my own VIC-20 emulator since last April: // VIC-20 noise emulation // by Petri Häkkinen // based on reverse engineering work by Lance Ewing struct oscillator { uint8_t sh...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex

To preserve my sanity I have asked the board admins to terminate my account on this forum. It was nice to be part of this community as long as it lasted but I can't take this anymore. Good bye folks!

Who got positive feedback? HF or me? I don't know.

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex

Which I said, my examples are quite silly. Again, just as silly as someone thinking a c64 port of his vic-20 game hurting future sales on a totally different platform. It does not matter. As the creator of the game I decide how my source code and game can be used however silly it may be in your opi...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex

You know what. At least with this incident I have learned a few things. 1. Open source is really not my thing. Every hobby project from now on will be fully closed. 2. Making games for these obsolete platforms is not really worth it. The amount of positive vs. negative feedback is so wildly unbalanc...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex

You are really trying dig hard to find something to badmouth me about, eh? Your examples are utterly ridiculous. These are a 8-bit work in progress computer and a 8-bit console I built myself from scratch as a electronics hobby project. No-one in the world is using them. No-one is hurt. What HF did ...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex

The database lists people that are current or former sceners or have some connection to the scene. I assume you don't fall into any of those categories, correct? I believe we've taken the appropriate action in this case; the entry will remain with hidden downloads. By your arbitrary rules I'm not g...

Is this is an official statement from csdb? Like I said in the mail you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex

how is that relevant? our company has trademarked stuff as well - so what? You asked me if I know the difference between copyright and trademarking. Yes I do. HF is a cracking group Apparently they also do porting. Still I don't get your point. They did not crack my vic20 game and they are not goin...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex

I have no idea what you are talking about, groepaz. copyright does not apply to a name, or game design, or gameplay mechanics. it only applies to actual assets of the game (the code, the graphics, the sound) - everything else could only be protected by a trademark, if it all. unless you register a ...
